Prof. Chinwe Chikwendu

Professor Chinwe Chikwendu is a product of the Project Management Professional Mentorship Program convened by Chuba Nkala and an accomplished microbiologist, academic leader, and project management professional whose career exemplifies excellence in scientific research and education across Nigeria.

A proud alumna of the University of Benin where she earned her first degree in Microbiology with Second Class Honours (Upper Division), Professor Chikwendu completed her PhD at the University of Port Harcourt in 2012. She achieved the distinguished rank of Full Professor in Microbiology in October 2020, cementing her position among Nigeria’s foremost scholars in the field.

Her cutting-edge research focuses on antimicrobial resistance in clinical and environmental bacterial isolates, exploring resistance mechanisms, resistance factors, and alternative antimicrobial therapies with significant implications for public health and environmental sustainability.

Beyond academia, Professor Chikwendu is a certified project management professional, seamlessly blending scientific rigor with strategic execution. She maintains active membership in prestigious bodies including the Nigerian Society for Microbiology, the American Society of Microbiology, and the Project Management Institute (USA).

A passionate advocate for holistic education, Professor Chikwendu champions the complete training and empowerment of both girls and boys, believing this foundation enables individuals to fulfill their divine purpose and contribute meaningfully to society. Her commitment to this principle has shaped her journey and amplified her voice as a changemaker among her peers.

A devout Christian, she lives her faith authentically, grounded in the conviction that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour—a belief that informs her approach to scholarship, mentorship, and service.
